Lunch & Learn: End Emotional Eating

How many times do you find your plate empty but don’t really remember eating? Maybe you were browsing Facebook, watching Game of Thrones or scarfing down food before you run out the door.

I want to share 3 tricks that nutritionists use to help END emotional eating.

Keep your distance.
Leave the serving dishes far away in the kitchen while you are eating. Having to get up and grab seconds will give you body time to digest and pay attention if you are really still hungry. On the other hand, leave the veggies and salad close by so if you need more to eat, you will grab the healthy stuff first.

Keep it formal.
When eating a snack, put snacks on a plate or in a bowl. We tend to each much less when not eating straight out of a bag or right from the frig.

Keep calm and eat slow.
Allow your stomach to catch up with your appetite. It takes 20 minutes for your first bite to reach the small intestine, which is eventually responsible for sending the “full” signal to your brain.  You could also put on some slow music (think Beethoven not Bruno Mars), put your fork down in between each bite and chew each bite at least 10 times.

Keep it going!
