“Cha cha cha CHIA!” (Can you hear the song in your head??)
Did you know that not only can you EAT chia seeds but they also have amazing health benefits? And you don’t have to buy from an Infomercial. You can buy them at most grocery stores or Costco sells a big organic bag for a great price.
Some ideas to add chia to your food:
CHIA PORRIDGE (Warm or Cold)
[Makes 1 serving]
3 tablespoons chia seeds
1 tablespoon shredded coconut (optional)
1/2 cup berries
1 cup unsweetened coconut (or almond) milk
Pinch of sea salt
Optional Add ins: 1 Tablespoon hemp seeds, 1 tablespoon flax seed (ground), 4 tablespoons shredded coconut, 2 tablespoon walnut
COLD PREP
Combine all ingredients in a bowl and chill in refrigerator until the chia turns into a pudding consistency, about 20 minutes (or overnight).
WARM PREP
Pour the almond milk into a saucepan. Warm the milk over medium-heat until it comes to a gentle boil. Add the chia (flax, hemp & coconut) if you are using and stir to combine. Reduce the heat to simmer and stir over low heat until porridge thickens. Serve immediately with any optional toppings.
STRAWBERRY BLISS CHIA SMOOTHIE
[Makes 2 servings]
1 cup coconut water or almond milk
1/2 cup frozen strawberries
1/2 cup fresh spinach
1 Tablespoon coconut oil
1 Tablespoon chia seeds
1 Tablespoon flax meal or hemp seeds
Pinch of cinnamon
Stevia or raw honey to sweeten
Ice (optional)
Add all ingredients and blend up in a high speed blender.
