The leaves have started to turn and you’ve pulled out your first Fall sweater, which means it’s also the perfect time for you to boost your immunity in preparation for the cold and flu season.

1. Make some tweaks to your diet.

  • Skip the Halloween candy and try adding another vegetable to each of your meals. Breakfast doesn’t have to just be eggs and bacon – sauté some spinach sprinkled with turmeric, black pepper, and sea salt.  (Black pepper significantly increases the benefits of turmeric!) Instead of pretzels for a snack cut up some carrots, celery, and peppers. Roast some butternut squash or a sweet potato for dinner along with your broccoli.
  • Don’t skimp on garlic which has natural immunity boosting properties.
  • Want to know the trick to turn garlic into a powerful medicine? Smash the garlic clove with the side of you knife and allow it to rest for 10-15 minutes before cooking. This allows the Allicin to form, which is the secret healing ingredient in the garlic!

2.  Add these vitamins and minerals everyday through your food or a high quality supplement.

  • Zinc (oysters, beef, pumpkin seeds)
  • Vitamin C (oranges, dark leafy greens)
  • Vitamin D3 (salmon, eggs, liver, or cod liver oil)
  • Probiotics (fermented foods, kefir).

3.  Do a nasal saline rinse at lease once a week.

  • A saline rinse helps get rid of bacteria, viruses, and irritants from your respiratory tract. Note: use distilled water or water that you previously boiled.

4.  Reduce your stress. I know it’s easy for me to say, and a lot harder to actually do! But try some simple changes to enjoy your life more.

  • Take good cleansing breaths and try 4,7,8 breathing when you feel yourself getting stressed. Click here for simple 4,7,8 breathing directions
  • Pick a new favorite tea to warm yourself up and calm yourself down.
  • Enjoy the cooler weather by going for a walk in a pumpkin patch.

5. Take advantage of the shortened days by getting more sleep.

  • Make an effort to not look at your phone right before bed. The electronic screen isn’t conducive to a good night’s sleep.
  • When you wake up, take few minutes to take a deep breath and stretch before looking at your phone and your schedule for the day.
